Costa escondida

NOAA and National Science Foundation’s Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences Division sponsored project in North Yucatan where the ancient Mayan port Vista Alegre was discovered nearly a decade ago. One exploration goal is to discover the remains of a Maya trading canoe, described in A.D. 1502 by Christopher Columbus’ son Ferdinand, as holding 25 paddlers plus cargo and passengers.
We have been invited to this project by Jeffrey Glover (Georgia State University’s Department of Anthropology in Atlanta), Patricia Beddows (Northwestern University’s Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences in Evanston, Illinois) and Beverly Goodman (Leon Charnet School of Marines Sciences at the University of Haifa, Israeal) and Dominique Rissolo (Center of Interdisciplinary Science for Art, Architecture, and Archaeology, University of California, San Diego).

NOAA’s mission is to understand and predict changes in the Earth’s environment, from the depths of the ocean to the surface of the sun, and to conserve and manage our coastal and marine resources.

We have been responsible of taken shallow water core samples from different locations around Vista Alegre. It’s been a great experience and pleasure to work with the mentioned above team.
